🌍 Immigration Update / ANEF

📅 Since July 10, 2024, initial applications and renewals for the following residence permits can be submitted online via the ANEF platform:
* Resident Card;
* Resident Card with the “Long-term Resident – EU” mention;
* Permanent Resident Card;
* Ten-year Residence Certificate for Algerians.

💡 As a reminder, the ANEF (Digital Administration for Foreigners in France) platform allows online submissions for initial applications and renewals of certain residence permits (including student, talent passport, family of a French national, visitor, family member of an EU citizen, seasonal worker, and family reunification).

🚶‍♂️ This online process eliminates the need for applicants to visit the prefecture to submit their applications. They will only need to appear in person at the prefecture when collecting their residence permit.

🔜 This service will soon be expanded to include additional residence permits.

🌴 Favorite Vacation Destinations of Parisians

🌞 Are Parisians tied to the asphalt? When it comes to choosing a vacation destination, it seems that the major cities of the Mediterranean basin (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Morocco) are their top choices.

🖼️ These destinations offer a rich heritage and the promise of lively evenings. On the agenda: exploring museums, tourist sites, cozy restaurants, and local specialties. Even if it means taking the bus or the metro, the ones in Rome or Barcelona have much more charm for Parisians than those in their own capital!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families with young children often prefer closer destinations and enjoy heading west. Among the most popular spots: Brittany, Île de Ré, the Arcachon Basin, and a bit further south, Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

🏖️ It’s not uncommon to bump into neighbors or colleagues at the market or on the way to the beach. People chat cheerfully, wearing espadrilles and sailor sweaters, sharing a coffee at the port bar under the half-amused, half-critical gaze of the locals, who take pride in being able to spot a Parisian on vacation from a mile away!

💁‍♀️ Working in France with the French: What to Expect?

Expatriate employees unanimously highlight several points that surprise and sometimes irritate them:

– 🗣️ Numerous meetings: often insufficiently prepared, they result in a significant waste of time.

– ⏳ Delay between decision-making and action: there can be a considerable lag before decisions are implemented.

– 🌐 English proficiency: even at the highest levels of the company, English proficiency is sometimes lacking, though this is improving.

– 🔍 Lack of clarity in communication: one must learn to read between the lines. For instance, “it’s going to be complicated” might mean “it’s difficult, but we’ll try” or “it’s not even worth trying.”

– 🏢 Time spent at the office: leaving before your manager is not always well-regarded. However, remote work is changing this dynamic.

– 🍽️ Extended lunch breaks: it’s difficult to make progress on tasks between 12 PM and 2 PM.

– 🎓 The importance of diplomas: even after 20 years of career, the school from which you graduated remains a significant factor.

Well-observed or exaggerated? What do you think?

🗓️ 2024 Legislative Elections

🗼 In response to the results of the European elections, the President of the Republic decided on June 9th to give the French people the opportunity to choose their parliamentary future by dissolving the National Assembly. This exclusive power of the President serves to resolve ongoing or anticipated crises or institutional deadlocks. This is the sixth dissolution since the start of the Fifth Republic.

♠️ In France, the National Assembly shares legislative power with the Senate. Together, these two bodies form the Parliament, but the National Assembly wields greater authority. It oversees government actions and can hold the government accountable. In case of a disagreement with the Senate, the Government can grant the National Assembly the “final say” in the legislative process (excluding constitutional laws and organic laws concerning the Senate). Additionally, the Constitution gives the National Assembly a more prominent role in reviewing the finance bill and the social security financing bill.

⁉️ The 577 deputies are elected by direct universal suffrage for a five-year term, and the President must select the Prime Minister from the political group that wins the legislative elections.

💁‍♀️ The significance of this election explains why it is currently a dominant topic in France.
