🆕New immigration law for French residence

🔒 Tightening of Access to Multi-Year Residence Permits and Resident Cards:

The recent immigration reform, known as the “Darmanin Law,” has significantly tightened the integration requirements and conditions for obtaining longer-term residence permits, such as multi-year residence permits and resident cards.

– 📄 From now on, holders of a temporary residence permit will no longer be able to renew this permit more than three times, provided it has the same designation. This measure applies to all holders of temporary residence permits, except those exempt from signing the Republican Integration Contract (CIR): students, seasonal workers, temporary workers, foreign patients, visitors, and trainees.

– 📅 Additionally, starting from January 1, 2026, obtaining a multi-year residence permit will require achieving a score “equal to or higher” than a threshold set by decree during the civic exam, and demonstrating proficiency in the French language at the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

– 🔔 Currently, to obtain a multi-year residence permit (CSP), a foreign national must only prove their regular attendance (except in exceptional circumstances) and the quality of their participation in the training prescribed by the State under the CIR.

– 🔑 Finally, starting from January 1, 2026, for the first issuance of a resident card, a resident card bearing the mention “long-term resident-UE,” or a permanent resident card, a score “equal to or higher” than a threshold set by decree during the civic exam will also be required, as well as proficiency in the French language at the B1 level of the CEFR (instead of the current A2 level). People over the age of 65 are not affected by this measure.

🐝 BEES IN PARIS

🌍 Urban beekeeping has seen significant growth in Paris since the 2000s, following the city’s “zero pesticides” policy. The complete ban on pesticides in parks, gardens, and cemeteries, combined with the mild temperatures and the rich diversity of vegetation in the capital, provides ideal living conditions for bees.

🏙️ The rooftops of the Opéra Garnier, Place Vendôme, the National Assembly, as well as those of many museums and office buildings, now host beehives. These hives have also proliferated in parks and gardens, with more than 1,500 hives today, equating to 15 hives per square kilometer compared to just 3 in natural environments.

⚠️ Should we rejoice? Not entirely… Scientists are sounding the alarm. These domestic bees, present in large numbers, compete with wild bees and other insects essential for pollinating certain plants. If we lose wild insects, which are the only ones capable of reaching nectar deeply hidden within flowers, some plant species may be at risk of extinction.

🌱 To preserve its biodiversity, the city of Paris has recently decided to reject any new installations of domestic beehives within its territory. Parisian honey is renowned for its delicate flavor… Have you had the chance to taste it?

🖼️ FROM THE LOUVRE TO VERSAILLES…

👥 In 2023, the Louvre attracted nearly 9 million visitors, 68% of whom were tourists, tirelessly exploring the 13.5 km of galleries and jostling to catch a glimpse of the iconic Mona Lisa!

🏰 Having become a museum in 1793, the Louvre was originally a fortress in the 12th century before becoming a royal residence in 1364. Over the centuries, it was gradually transformed by successive monarchs, each reign leaving its mark according to the styles of the time.

🔥 In 1661, a fire destroyed the small gallery, which dated back to the reign of Henry IV. The young King Louis XIV then commissioned Charles Le Brun to rebuild it. Le Brun paid homage to the sun, which the king had recently chosen as his emblem. The gallery’s vaulted ceiling is adorned with paintings depicting the journey of Apollo, the sun god, from dawn to dusk, as well as representations of the sun’s influence: the seasons, zodiac signs, continents…

✨ Twenty years later, the Apollo Gallery would serve as a model for the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, where Louis XIV chose to establish himself with his court.

🎟️ Versailles, another must-see tourist destination, is hosting the Olympic events this year but fortunately remains open for visits all summer long.

🌲 Nature in the City of Paris

🌳 Historically, the 18th century marks a turning point: parks, gardens, and tree-lined promenades, open to the public, are considered essential for the physical and moral well-being of citizens.

🌿 During the Second Empire, the major urban projects undertaken in Paris by Baron Haussmann included an ambitious greening policy. Woods, parks, squares, and alignment trees were tasked with purifying, beautifying, and pacifying a rapidly growing industrial city.

🏙️ In recent years, community gardens have multiplied in the capital, and vegetable gardens now occupy unexpected spaces such as rooftops. Today, the largest urban farm in Europe is located on the roof of the Parc des Expositions in the 15th arrondissement!

🌲 Recently, an urban forest was inaugurated at Place de Catalogne, just steps away from Montparnasse station: 470 trees of various sizes and species have been planted.

🍃 Although it will take about ten years for them to reach their full height, they are already helping to cool the atmosphere, capture carbon, and preserve biodiversity.

🌱 This site, once very mineral, now offers a completely different face. Compared to other major European capitals, Paris still lacks green spaces, so every step forward is valuable!

🛠️ Progress on the Restoration of Notre-Dame

🕍 It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since the world watched in disbelief as Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was engulfed in flames.

✨ Today, we eagerly anticipate the reopening of the cathedral, confirmed for December 8, 2024.

🏗️ After years of painstaking restoration work, experts involved in the project promise a stunning transformation: the cathedral’s stone will shine brightly, the cleaned stained glass windows will once again fill the space with light, and the vibrant colors of the paintings will be fully restored.

👷 Hundreds of passionate artisans and craftsmen have been dedicated to this monumental task.

🛠️ Alongside cabinetmakers, quarry workers, stone carvers, and carpenters, we have witnessed the vital contributions of lesser-known trades, such as dinandiers, who specialize in working with copper, brass, and silver, and campanists, experts in bell making.

🖼️ Across France, workshops have been busy crafting structural elements, restoring the grand organ, and preserving furniture, sculptures, statues, paintings, and stained glass.

🎨 This incredible craftsmanship has inspired a new generation of young people to pursue careers in the artisanal arts.

🌍 As the world looks on during the upcoming Olympic Games, they will witness the remarkable progress made on Notre-Dame.

👏 We can take great pride in all those who have contributed to this extraordinary achievement.
